Nadezhda Petrova, former world number three and Olympic bronze medalist, believes that Andrei Rublev lost to the representative of Kazakhstan Alexander Bublik in the final of the Halle tournament, as he could not cope with the opponent’s creative play.
The Russian tennis player lost to Bublik in three matches – 3:6, 6:3, 3:6.
– After watching Rublev’s final with Bublik, I can say that there were no surprises there. Bublik got in great shape in the final, beat some really good tennis players and apparently felt grass was better than other surfaces for his style of tennis – so creative and extraordinary. Alexander plays a little for the public, uses unusual moves – and on the grass this brings him great success. On this surface you have to make decisions quickly, and Bublik’s rivals stand on their feet and don’t know what he’s going to do the next second.
In the first set, Bublik started demonstrating his extraordinary tricks, and Rublev was completely deep in thought: “What’s going to happen next? What blow will come next? In the second set, Andrey was already able to drive these thoughts away and began to play with the balls flying from the Bagel. Then Rublev did well: he took a break, won a set. But in the final set, Bublik was just awesome. He was in the right place at the right time, reading Rublev’s game. From the outside it looked very interesting. The ATP top 10 player didn’t know what to do with Bublik, Gazeta.Ru quote Petrova.
Rublev will perform at Wimbledon, which will begin on July 3 in London (UK).
