Athletistic / Tennis. Well-known Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina, ranked 75th in the world ranking, commented on the admission of Russians and Belarusians to Wimbledon this season. She admitted she doesn’t support the decision, but feels it should just be accepted.

“In 2022, I was happy that the organizers of Wimbledon decided not to allow Russians and Belarusians. We Ukrainians fought with all our might for this. Then we discussed with the organizers of the competition, with the WTA, ATP, ITF, explained to them what was happening with us in the country, why other sports banned Russians and Belarusians, and why tennis did not. We were all extremely grateful to Wimbledon for their brave decision.

Svitolina: ‘Sobolenko warmed things up by going to the net’

But now they have been forced to change their approach as they have come under a lot of pressure from the tennis governing bodies. Therefore, the admission of players from the Russian Federation and Belarus was expected, since the organizers simply did not want to lose the Grand Slam tournament again. That’s why we just have to accept it. I am always grateful to them for their support, for their help with housing and in many other areas, ”quotes Svitolina.
