Elina beat the tennis legend in straight sets
Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina commented on the victory over Venus Williams in the first round Wimbledon 2023.
“Playing against Venus is always a pleasure for me, we have met so many times on the court, at almost every major. I had to work hard to win this match. Grass requires a lot of strength from you, really, you need good knee work to squat, because Venus plays very fast, ”said Svitolina.
“Today was a special moment for me to play on such a special court in front of these spectators against a legend of the sport. These are wonderful feelings. I’m very happy to be back on the road so quickly and playing in a major. My husband and daughter are rooting for me at home.”

Svitolina defeated the five-time Wimbledon champion in straight sets – 6:4, 6:3. In the next round, Elina will play with the Belgian Elise Mertens.
