Olympic doubles tennis champion Elena Vesnina told that she considers the Russian Andrei Rublev favorite for the match of the second round of the Wimbledon tournament against his compatriot Aslan Karatsev.
Rublev (7th seed) in the first round of the tournament on Monday beat Australian Max Purcell with the score 6:3, 7:5, 6:4, Karatsev was stronger than Frenchman Luc van Asch – 6:7 (4:7), 6:4, 6:2, 6:4. In the second round, the Russians will face each other.
– We will expect a nice tennis from Aslan and Andrey. It’s always difficult to play against compatriots. I would like the guys to meet later in the tournament, but that’s the grid. We will see a great confrontation, they have already played against each other.
The penultimate week, Andrey was in the final of the tournament on grass in Hull. Aslan has yet to show such good results on this surface. It will be interesting to see how it performs. It will be a nervous match, but Rublev can be called a favourite, Vesnina told .
Rublev and Karatsev previously held a personal meeting, during which Aslan turned out to be stronger.
