For the first time in history four Ukrainian tennis players advanced to the second round Wimbledon.

Elina Svitolina in the first match, she defeated five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, and Lesya Tsurenko – another American Claire Liu. Marta Kostyuk in her opening bout, she snatched a strong-willed victory over the eighth racket of the world, Maria Sakkari from Greece. On the fourth game day Angelina Kalinina defeated Jessica Bousas Maneiro of Spain.

Previously, three Ukrainians managed to win twice in the opening matches of the grass “major”. In 2008, the sisters Alena and Katerina Bondarenko, as well as Tatiana Perebiynis, made it to the second round. In 2022, the top three were Lesya Tsurenko, Angelina Kalinina and Marta Kostyuk.

Note that Svitolina and Tsurenko managed to get into the third round of Wimbledon 2023. Kalinina and Kostyuk will play their second round fights later.
