Athletistic/Tennis. On July 6, Andrei Rublev and Aslan Karatsev will face each other in the second round match at Wimbledon. Who will succeed?
6 July Wibledon. Men. Simple. Second turn. Andrei Rublev – Aslan Karatsev
At the previous stage, Rublev defeated Wimbledon doubles champion Max Purcell 3:0 (6:3, 7:5, 6:4). In the second set, the Russian was down 2:5, but he managed to seize the initiative and bring the matter to a landslide victory.
At Wimbledon, Rublev never made it past the fourth round. Maybe this time he can overcome that barrier. The seventh racquet in the world has significantly improved the quality of its game on grass.
In the next meeting, Rublev is far from the most convenient opponent. Andrei faced Karatsev only once at ATP tournaments – in the semi-finals in Dubai. Aslan won this meeting with a score of 6:2, 6:4, 4:6.
This season, Karatsev has twice reached two semi-finals. He first came to this stage during the ATP 250 in Pune and then at the Madrid Masters. Along the way, the Russian has beaten many strong opponents including Tim van Reithoven, Botik van de Zandshulp, Alex de Minor and fellow countryman Dmitry Medvedev. However, Karatsev also has a big downside. He is nowhere near as stable as Rublev.
Karatsev flew out of the Australian Open, losing in the first round to Grigor Dimitrov – 0:3 (6:7, 5:7, 2:6). He dropped out of Roland Garros, losing to Francis Tiafoe – 1:3 (6:3, 3:6, 5:7, 2:6). At the grass tournament of the ATP-500 category in Halle, Aslan also did not succeed. He lost in the first round to Lorenzo Sonego – 1:2 (2:6, 6:3, 2:6).
Karatsev failed to avoid problems in Wimbledon first round match with 19-year-old French tennis player Luca Van Aschem – 3:1 (6:7, 6:4, 6:2, 6:4 ). In the upcoming match, Aslan is unlikely to win, but he will definitely be able to impose a fight on Rublev.
Rublev gained confidence in his own abilities and also adapted to the speed of the grass surface. I think he will beat the less stable Karatsev. After all, Andrei is the seventh racket in the world. He has more experience in the majors and better results. Rublev will immediately take the initiative. Karatsev, due to pressure from the opponent, may start making mistakes.
In 2022 Serbian Novak Djokovic and Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan became the winners of Wimbledon.
This season, the London tournament, which takes place on grass, started on July 3.
