Russian tennis player Daniel Medvedev said he decided not to wash his hair before finishing the match with Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the second round of Wimbledon to keep a better concentration.
On Thursday, organizers halted the match due to poor lighting. The game was suspended in the third set with the score 6:3, 6:3, 4:4 in favor of the Russian tournament seed under the third number. On Friday, the Russian led the game to victory with the score 6:3, 6:3, 7:6 (7:5).
— I don’t know if I was able to relax during the night, because the game was not over.
A few years ago I had this in a match against [Хуберта] Hurkacha and I lost after taking over [встречи], because during the night I prepared myself as for a new match – an ice bath, that’s all. This time I didn’t even wash my hair,” Medvedev said on the pitch after the game against Mannarino.
Hearing laughter from the audience, the Russian added: “But I took a shower anyway.”
Medvedev will play with Hungary’s Marton Fucovich in the third round.
