russian wife Ekaterina Alexandrova became the first tennis player in Wimbledon Open era history to win a match in three tie-breaks, according to statistics portal OptaAce.
On Friday, Alexandrova, who received the 21st seed, beat American Madison Brengle 6:7 (4:7), 7:6 (7:5), 7:6 (10:7) . The second round match lasted 2 hours and 48 minutes.
This is the fourth time there have been three tie-breaks in the Women’s Grand Slam. Previously, such matches were contested by Steffi Graf and Pam Shriver (1985), Mary-Jo Fernandez and Leila Meskhi (1991), as well as Rebeka Masarova and Ana Bogdan (2021). All three matches were played at the US Open.
In the fourth round of Wimbledon, Alexandrova will play with Dalma Galfi of Hungary.
