The Ukrainian will play with the Belarusian tennis player in the 1/8 finals of Wimbledon
Former first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina said that the match of the 1/8 finals Wimbledon 2023 against the Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka is of fundamental importance to her.
“Of course, this is a big challenge, for me it is a big motivation. First of all, I will think about my country. In a sense, this is just a match, but at the same time, many Ukrainians will watch and support me. I will go on the court with a fighting spirit and I will fight for every point.”
The Ukrainian beat the American Sofia Kenin in the third round. Elina won the first set in a tie-break, in the second set the Ukrainian made two breaks and won the match.
Svitolina made it to the fourth round of Wimbledon for the third time in her career. The 1/8 final match against the 19th seed Victoria Azarenka is scheduled for July 9.
