Russian tennis player Romain Safiullin admitted he had yet to make his Wimbledon quarter-final appearance.
Earlier on Saturday, the Russian defeated Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the fourth round with a score of 3:6, 6:3, 6:1, 6:3.
– I haven’t realized yet that I’ve reached the quarter-finals, especially in my first career main draw at Wimbledon. I haven’t played much on grass, I hope I can do better.
– The next opponent will be Yannick Sinner. What are your expectations?
– We met at the ATP Cup last year. It was almost my first experience of playing against a top 10 player, it wasn’t easy. But in the first set I gave him problems, I hope I will draw conclusions from this game and can improve it for the next game.
When I was a kid, I watched every tournament I could find, especially Wimbledon. So I remember Roger Federer’s match, Novak Djokovic’s match, I remember Rafael Nadal’s victory. So those are good memories,” Safiullin told a news conference.
Safuillin will face Sinner in the quarterfinals on July 11.
