Keys sent home Sonai Kartal and Victoria Golubich and advanced to the third round, where Marta Kostyuk awaited her. At the start of the first set, there were three consecutive breaks and the American took the lead with the score 3:2.
Keys then saved four break points in another game and retained the lead. She didn’t use a set point on Kostyuk’s serve at 5-3, but was able to easily establish it in the next game. The second set was one-sided as the American won six in a row and won the match 6-4, 6-1.
Meanwhile, Andreeva made it through the qualifying rounds before beating Van Siyu and Barbora Krejcikova to advance to the third round. Mirra battled compatriot Anastasia Potapova for a spot in the fourth round.
Andreeva once lost a pitch, but at the same time she herself made three breaks and led 5:1. Mirra didn’t give her opponent a chance to recover and quickly won the set.
Potapova took a 4-1 lead in the second set, but Andreeva stepped up and equalized. Both had several break points in the next few games, but it was Mirra who took advantage. She took her compatriot’s serve, leading 6-5, then finished the match winning 6-2, 7-5.
