Wimbledon 1974 runner-up Olga Morozova in a conversation with a correspondent said that Mirra Andreeva considering the qualifying matches, she’s played all of Wimbledon, and that’s tough for a 16-year-old tennis player.
On Monday, Andreeva lost to Madison Keys in the fourth round match of the Wimbledon tennis tournament. The 25th seeded USA won the match 3:6, 7:6 (7:4), 6:2. The meeting lasted a little over two hours.
– We have to congratulate Mirra for the fact that she has made a great run at this Wimbledon. She played very well, behaved well on the pitch, but today was difficult. There was a breeze, the sun was shining – a weather that had never happened before. As in France, Mirra has also played three qualifying matches here. Turns out she’s played all of Wimbledon – seven matches! It’s very hard for a 16 year old girl.
Today she played against the unfamiliar Madison Keys. The American changed tactics – she started going to the net more. Mirra wasn’t quite ready for this. At the same time, she led 4:1 in the second set, literally two goals were not enough to make it 5:1. Keyes is not always strong in such moments, she often loses her nerve. But today she showed great quality and courageous tennis.
A very unpleasant situation arose for Mirra in the third set, when the ball was taken away from her. During the match, she was reprimanded for throwing her racquet. And at the end of the match, when the score was tied, Mirra tripped and the racket flew out of her hands. So the judge gave him a second point and took a point off him, giving Keys match point! Imagine! At such a moment, take a point off a 16-year-old girl! Never!
But I think it should be forgotten. For Mirra, this whole Wimbledon experience is amazing. She now knows how her opponents will play against her – Keys showed her today. Mirra now has to prepare for this option, Morozova told .
In the quarterfinals, Keys will play with the winner of the pair Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia, 21) – Arina Sobolenko (Belarus, 2).
