Sobolenko defeated Panna Udvardi and Varvara Gracheva to advance to the third round where she faced Anna Blinkova. The Belarusian got off to a successful start, winning the first three games of the starting set.
Blinkova won the next two matches, but the momentum again turned in Sobolenko’s favor as she won the next three matches to claim the set. The Belarusian gave the service and lost 1:2 in the second set, but in the next four matches she showed a high level of tennis, led 5:2 and quickly won the match – 6:2, 6:3.
Meanwhile, Alexandrova knocked out Emma Navarro and Madison Brengle to reach the third round where she faced Dalma Galfi. The Russian dominated the first set, which she won without losing a single match.
In the second set, Galfi played a little better, but she was no match for Alexandrova. The Russian made a decisive break in game seven, leading 4-3, and soon after ended the game winning 6-0, 6-4. Now she will play in the fourth round of a major tournament for the first time in her career.
Alexandrova leads 3-2 in personal meetings with Sobolenko. The Russian won their previous encounter at the Libema Open 2022 in straight sets.
