World No. 2 Serbian Novak Djokovic appointed Andrei Rublev one of the most stable players on all surfaces, noting the Russian’s play on the back line.
On Monday, Djokovic defeated Poland’s Hubert Hurkach in Wimbledon’s fourth round match and reached the quarter-finals of the tournament, where he will play with Rublev.
Rublev is a fantastic player with one of the best forehands in the game. He plays very intensely on the court and kind of scares his opponents at the net. Very nice guy and person. Andrei has worked as hard as anyone to become the top 10 player he has been in recent years. One of the most consistent players on any surface. I respect him a lot.
I was surprised that he never reached the semi-finals of the Grand Slam tournaments, this will obviously serve as additional motivation for him tomorrow to be inspired and play his best tennis.
I will have to prepare tactically for Rublev differently than for Khurkach. He doesn’t have as powerful a serve as Hurkacs, but he definitely has faster hands, just very powerful backline play. I hope to recover and be as fresh as possible tomorrow,” Djokovic told a press conference.
