World number 2 Djokovic faced his toughest test in two weeks against ATP number 17 Hubert Hurkacs in the fourth round at Wimbledon. Djokovic won five points in a row, losing 3-6 in the first set tie-break and winning the match.
Another tie-break followed in the second set, where Hurkacs once again took the lead with a mini-break, but the Serb again won and took a 2-0 lead. Also, due to the late hour at 11:00 p.m., the competition was suspended and the match resumed on Monday. Djokovic made a mistake, serving 5-6, Gurkach took advantage and took the third set. However, in the fourth set, the Serb made the only break and reached the 14th Wimbledon quarter-final.
It was the only time in four sets that Hurkacs lost a serve but now he is out of the tournament with Djokovic winning 31 games in a four-game losing season.
Meanwhile, Rublev, ranked seventh in the ATP rankings, faced a tough opponent in Alexander Bublik in a rematch after the Halle final. The Russian looked in control as he won the first tiebreak and then the second set.
Bublik collected two match points in the third set and closed the gap, then Alexander took the second tie-break in a row and leveled the score. Rublev, however, returned to action and won the fifth set 6-4, improving to 35-13 in 2023 and 9-3 at Wimbledon.
Djokovic has won three of the four encounters with Rublev. It will be his first time on grass.
