Sobolenko beat Panna Udvardi, Varvara Gracheva, Anna Blinkova and Ekaterina Aleksandrova to reach the quarter-finals here, where she faced 2017 US Open runner-up Madison Keys.
Sobolenko took the Keys’ serve twice in the first set, took a 5:2 lead and scored for the match.
Keys in the second set and took a 4-2 lead. She tried to consolidate her position and led 40-0 on her own serve the next game, but Sabalenka had other plans. She took the American service, then won the next three games and with them the match with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Arina reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon for the second time.
Jabeur defeated Magdalena Frech, Zhuoxuan Bai, Bianca Andreescu and Petra Kvitova to advance to the quarter-finals. She then faced defending champion Elena Rybakina in a rematch of the Wimbledon final last year.
Jabeur trailed 1-3 in the first set but managed to level the score. She took another break in the 11th game, made it 6-5 and served a set. Rybakina then saved a set point and took the Tunisian serve, moving the game to a tie-break, which she also managed to win.
The two were tied for most of the second set, but at the decisive moment at 4-5, Rubakina dropped her serve and Jabeur took the set 6-4. The deciding set turned out to be rather one-sided: Jabeur only lost one match and won 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-1.
Sobolenko in personal meetings with Jaber leads with the score 3:1. Arina won the previous encounter at the 2022 WTA Finals in straight sets.
