The first Grand Slam title in the career of a Czech tennis player
Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousov became the winner of the women’s singles Wimbledon 2023.
In the final, Vondrousova defeated the representative of Tunisia in two sets Ons Gill. The fight went on for almost an hour and a half.
For the entire match, Marketa converted 6 out of 7 breakpoints, giving her opponent four games on her serve. The Czech also made 4 double faults.
24-year-old Vondrousova won the Grand Slam for the first time in her career. Marketa lost to Ashleigh Barty in the 2019 Roland Garros final.
Vondrousova also became the lowest-ranked Wimbledon singles winner in the Open Era. Now the Czech is ranked 42nd in the WTA rankings, but next week she will rise to 10th position.
Jabeur suffered her third loss in the Grand Slam tournament finals. In 2022, Ons lost to Elena Rybakina and Iga Sventek in the deciders at Wimbledon and the US Open, respectively.
Recall that Ukrainian Elina Svitolina reached the 1/2 finals of Wimbledon 2023, where she lost to Vondrousova.
