Athletistic/Tennis. On July 15, 2023, Marketa Vondrousova and Ons Jaber will meet in the Wimbledon final. Who will succeed?
July 15th. Wibledon. Women. Simple. Ons Jaber (Tunisia) – Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic)
Forecast: gills victory
Vondrousova can be considered Wimbledon’s leading sensation. The Czech is ranked 42nd in the WTA rankings and has never exceeded the top 15. At the same time, she has only one title to her credit, which the tennis player won six years ago. Needless to say, Vondrousova became the first unranked finalist in the grass-court main event in 55 years.
Marketa reached the TBS final for the second time in his career, after failing to beat Ashleigh Barty at Roland Garros four years ago. This season, she also reached the decisive stages only once, in April, she stopped in the semi-finals of the Linz tournament. Since then, in matches with tennis players who were much higher in the rankings, little has come of it.
Vondrousova arrived in great shape at Wimbledon. She has eight wins in her last nine matches on grass. Moreover, in these matches, she gave the set to her rivals only twice. And we cannot say that the grid was too easy, since it was possible to beat, among others, Veronika Kudermetova, Jessica Pegula and Elina Svitolina.
The character of the Czech is definitely not to occupy, she knows how to get out of difficult situations, which she has demonstrated more than once. In the quarterfinals, she won the deciding set, having played three games, and there was no fight with Svitolina – Marketa took the initiative the whole game. She is an excellent receiver and makes good use of the first serve.
For Zhaber, the second half of the season is marked by rematches. At Wimbledon, the Tunisian has already managed to get revenge on Elena Rybakina for the loss in the final last year and Arina Sobolenko for the quarter-final two years ago. She’s lost to Vondrousova twice this year alone – at the Australian Open and Indian Wells. She only took one set.
Jaber really added a lot. She got rid of all sorts of health issues and is showing her best tennis of her career. With the motivation of the sixth racket in the world, of course, there are no problems either – for her it is the second Wimbledon final in a row and the third of the Grand Slam tournaments. However, there are still no titles.
In the final, the class of tennis players is incomparable. However, the plot is still there. Many underestimate Vondrousova, but the Czech has repeatedly proven herself worthy of fighting for the trophy. She will be looking for a third straight win over Ons Jaber this season. However, Tunisia made a more dramatic path to the title. Ons is set to win a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
