Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud defended her compatriot Ulrikke Eikeri, who was criticized for participating in the Wimbledon tournament paired with Russian Alexandra Panova.
Akery and Panova have qualified for the second round of Wimbledon in doubles. Later, amid criticism, the Norwegian was forced to apologize for playing a duet with the Russian, noting that she regretted her choice.
– This year the Russians were allowed to play at Wimbledon, unlike last year’s tournament, so I don’t think it should be a problem who she (Akery) chooses as her partner. It can happen a bit randomly. In a sense, this (criticism) becomes a witch hunt.
She can’t stand Russia, even though she plays with a Russian tennis player. This partner most likely lived 90% of her life outside of Russia. I don’t think she supports Russia, and then I don’t understand why Akery should apologize? Wimbledon organizers have announced that Russians are allowed to compete, WTA and ATP also allow them. We follow the rules because we play in competitions under the auspices of these organizations, – quotes the words of Ruud NRK.
