German tennis player Alexander Zverev could be fined 500,000 euros in a personal injury case, reports RTL .
The Berlin prosecutor’s office has filed a motion for a court order to impose a fine on the 26-year-old athlete. Whether a penalty order will be issued is currently under review.
Zverev has been accused of causing bodily harm by his ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea, who declined to comment further.
The request for sanction from the prosecutor’s office indicates that the prosecutor sees sufficient grounds to bring charges. This is not a final verdict, but a decision proposed by the prosecutor’s office and capable of “saving Zverev from public hearings”.
Previously, the ATP carried out an investigation into a German tennis player suspected of domestic violence.
The charges against Zverev in November 2020 were brought by his ex-girlfriend Olga Sharypova. Following the investigation, the ATP announced in January this year that it would not sanction Zverev as there was insufficient evidence to support the published allegations of abuse.
