Nadia Podoroskaninth seed, defeated Russian Elina Avanesyan (69 WTA) this Friday in the brick dust tournament in Budapest 6-1 and 6-3, and earned a spot in semifinals. La Peque, born in Rosario and ranked 80th in the WTA world rankings, showed very solid tennis and defeated Avanesyan after an hour and 24 minutes of play.
This is the second meeting between the two, after Podoroska won the quarterfinals of this year’s Chiasso (Switzerland) tournament. The 26-year-old Argentine, who made his debut on Hungarian clay, once again defeated the Russian with a clear victory in one hour and 24 minutes.
Rosario has to face another Russian in the semifinals, Maria Timofeeva (246), who eliminated Slovenian Kaja Juvan (169) in the quarterfinals 3-6, 6-3 and 6-2.
