Svitolina: I can name many factors that could play a role in the decision not to allow Russians and Belarusians to compete

Elina did not support the decision of the USTA to allow representatives of the aggressor countries to participate in the US Open

Former first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina commented on the decision of the US Tennis Association (USTA) to allow tennis players from Russia and Belarus to participate in the upcoming US Open-2022 in a neutral status.

“This is the decision of the USTA, they have decided to go this route. I don’t support him because I think they should have taken more serious measures,” Svitolina said.

“Ukrainian sport has been thrown back at least 10 years ago because the entire infrastructure has been damaged or completely destroyed. I can name many factors that could play a role in the decision not to allow Russian and Belarusian players to compete.”

Earlier, Svitolina became the second ambassador of the UNITED24 platform, created on the initiative of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

In March, Elina took a break from her tennis career, and in May she announced her pregnancy. The tennis player and her husband Gael Monfils are expecting a baby girl in October.

The US Open will take place from August 29 to September 11. The current US Open champions are Daniil Medvedev and Emma Radukanu.
