The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) is investigating the incident with Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva that the Polish border guards did not let into the country to participate in the tournament.
On Saturday, information appeared on the official website of the Polish government that the border service did not allow Zvonareva to enter the country “for reasons of state and public security”.
— The WTA is aware of Vera Zvonareva’s situation in Warsaw. The safety and well-being of all players is a top priority for the WTA. Vera has left Poland, we will study this issue in the future, the association said in a statement.
The WTA 250 category tournament will be held in Warsaw from July 24-30. Zvonareva is on the list of participants.
