Earlier it was announced that Zvonareva, 38, was barred from entering Poland by the decision of the country’s Interior Ministry in the interest of ensuring state and public safety. She is on the list of persons undesirable to enter Poland.
“The WTA should deprive the tournament in Poland of the status due to Zvonareva’s refusal of entry. Sports event organizers in each country are responsible for visa and security issues. In this case, this was not ensured and an act of discrimination took place. Therefore, such a tournament does not deserve WTA status,” Svishchev said, referring to TASS.
Zvonareva is the 2008 Olympics bronze medalist in singles, the former second-ranked racket in the world in singles. She has also won five Grand Slam tournaments (three times in doubles and twice in mixed doubles).
