Ruud beat world number 16 Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 7-5 in the semi-final on Saturday. The Norwegian played excellent tennis at Bastad, where he lifted the trophy in 2021. Ruud was in control early in the first set, taking Musetti’s serve and holding his own confidently. He took the lead and won the set 6-3. The second set turned out to be a fierce battle with both players holding serve until the score was 5-5. However, it was Musetti who ultimately succumbed to the pressure, allowing Ruud to win the second set as well.

Despite a rather difficult 2023 season with several early exits from various competitions, Ruud managed to regain some confidence during the clay-court season. Even though the clay-court season did not live up to his expectations, Ruud redeemed himself with a title at Estoril and a second place at Roland Garros.

As tomorrow’s final draws near, Ruud will no doubt be looking to clinch the title and continue his dominance in the clay-court season after Wimbledon on grass.

Meanwhile, Rublev secured his spot in the final after beating Francisco Cerundolo 7-6(6), 6-7(7), 6-3. The Russian beat Pavel Kotov at the start and beat his good friend Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals.

Rublev had a great season this year. This year he won his first ATP Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo and then finished second at the Srpska Open. He also reached the finals in Halle and Dubai, two ATP 500 tournaments.

Rublev currently has an advantage in personal meetings with Ruud – 4:2. However, their last encounter was in the ATP-2022 Finals, where Ruud emerged victorious with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Rublev dominated on clay, maintaining a 3-0 advantage in personal encounters on the surface.
