Russian tennis player Maria Timofeva said what she would spend with the prize money won for winning the Budapest tournament.
On Sunday, 19-year-old Timofeeva claimed her first WTA title by defeating Ukrainian Katerina Beindl in the tournament final in the Hungarian capital. The Russian woman will receive around 30,000 euros in prize money.
– Because of the title, I hope at least some of the top players will recognize and remember my name. And prices come and go. Tennis is an expensive sport, and the higher the level, the greater the expense. But I think I can afford a new bag or a good pair of shoes,” Timofeeva “Championship” quotes.
In the updated world rankings, Timofeeva fell from 246th to 129th place.
