Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev said on that the incident with the inadmissibility of Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva was quite predictable.
Last week, reports appeared on the Polish government’s website that the border service did not let Zvonareva into the country “for reasons of state and public security”. The 38-year-old Russian was planning to play at the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournament in Warsaw. The WTA later said it was investigating Zvonareva’s incident.
How did you discover this situation? What’s your reaction ?
– I learned from the media after Vera returned to Montenegro. The situation was predictable, since last September the Polish leadership has closed entry into the country to Russians, including for sports purposes, despite Schengen visas.
There were precedents for not admitting Russians to tournaments, they had to sign papers condemning the SVO. The fencing tournament is cancelled. The wrestling tournament was also later canceled.
These are all the prerogatives of the Polish authorities. We must seek justice through the international sports federations, – said Andreev on the air of the program “There is a theme!” on the channel.
Zvonareva is a former second racket in the world. She has 24 WTA singles and doubles titles.
