The Spanish tennis player defeated Swiss Stan Wawrinka 6-2, 6-3 at the Hurlingham exhibition.
Rafael Nadal won again on the lawn in three years after his final victory over that, by defeating the Swiss Stan Wawrinka 6-2 and 6-3 at the Hurlingham exhibition.
The Spaniard is finishing these days his preparation for Wimbledon at training sessions at the All England Club, where he has already finished three, and at the exhibition in Hurlingham, where he played the first of two scheduled games on Wednesday.
Having proven himself on this week’s training sets, with defeats to Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria and Kamil Majchrzak of Poland, Nadal climbed the carpet at Hurlingham, located at one of the most exclusive clubs in London.
The Spaniard trained in the morning at Wimbledon and eventually went to Hurlingham accompanied by his team, which consisted of Francis Roig, Marc López and Rafa Maymó, as well as some friends. Nadal, who has already played in this exhibition in 2018 and 2019, has greatly improved his training level to beat Wawrinka, whom he defeated in straight sets. Despite signs of improvement, Nadal has twice lost service to a Wawrinka far from being a tennis player who has won three Grand Slam titles.
With the exception of some serving disconnection, Nadal greatly improved the percentage of firsts, encouraged some direct serve in second services and was more aggressive in his game.
In just over an hour he has tasted victory over this again three years later, since he beat Sam Querrey in the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2019. His last fight on the grass was the 2019 semifinal against Roger Federer.
The Spanish’s next match is next Friday against Felix Auger-Aliassime, whom he has already beaten at Roland Garros in five sets.
Nadal will continue to combine these days of training with this exhibition, he will know his luck in the main draw at Wimbledon in the draw on Monday and he will attend the press over the weekend. His debut in the tournament he won in 2008 and 2010 was on Tuesday.
