The organizers of the US Open will test a system of video replays, with the help of which it will be possible to verify various controversial situations, reports the Associated Press.
The video replay system will work in test mode for the first time in the history of Grand Slam tournaments.
According to the publication, the player will be able to take a replay in a controversial situation with a double rebound of the ball on the court, possible contact of the ball with the body of the player, touching the net by a tennis player, or if the player is embarrassed by the noise on the ground.
The tennis player will be able to use the replay three times per set. If the challenge is completed correctly, the player will save it, during the tie-break, each tennis player will receive an additional opportunity to play again.
Cameras will be installed on 5 of the 17 tournament courts: Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium, the Grandstand and Courts 5 and 17. This sample would cover more than 50% of singles matches. If successful, the video replay system will be expanded in 2024.
The US Open will take place from August 28 to September 10.
