Monfils hasn’t had time to recover from a foot injury, which he hasn’t played since mid-May, and is forced to miss the tournament in England.
“This week I started training again, I felt good. I can gradually increase the load and get in shape. However, I don’t train that much. And at Wimbledon the game is on grass and the five-set format. It’s a lot of effort. In the end, we decided not to participate in the tournament. I will focus on preparing for the summer tournaments,” explained Monfils.
The French tennis player is the second athlete to withdraw from Wimbledon. Previously this was done by Sebastian Korda.
