Former world number one Simona Halep will miss the 2023 US Open due to an anti-doping rule violation, reports the Daily Mail.
Traces of the banned substance roxadust were found during a doping test of a Romanian tennis player late last summer. The athlete was temporarily suspended from competition, and then a new case was opened against her, related to a violation of the biological passport.
On Monday, a week before the start of the US Open, Halep was automatically excluded from the bid for an anti-doping rule violation. In the main tournament grid, it will be replaced by the 134th racket Taylor Townsend .
Halep has won 25 WTA titles, including two Grand Slam titles. The Romanian topped the world rankings from October 2017 to January 2019.
