Belarusian tennis player Arina Sobolenko can for the first time in his career take the lead in the WTA rankings if successful at the US Open.
Heading into the final Grand Slam tournament of the season, Sobolenko is second in the standings with 8,746 points, and 1,209 points behind the leader Ige Schwentek . Swiatek must defend his title to retain 2,000 points, the Belarusian must defend 780 points for reaching the semi-finals a year ago.
If the polka defends the title, she is guaranteed to stay on the front line. Sobolenko will take the lead if she wins the championship, beats Swiatek in the later stages of the tournament, or is on par with her.
The US Open-2023 will be held from August 28 to September 10.
