Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa said that due to an injury, she will not be able to participate in the US Open and will not return to the court until the end of 2023.
In May, the former second racket in the world suffered a stress fracture of the lumbar vertebra. She missed Roland-Garros and withdrew from Wimbledon in the first round.
“After many months of fighting to be able to compete again, I am ending my season. Those of you who know me know how much I love tennis and how difficult it was for me to make this decision.
With my team, we have tried everything, but the pain does not allow me to continue playing. Thank you to all the people who are still by my side in these difficult times. See you next year. I will come back stronger than ever,” Badosa wrote on social media.
Badosa is ranked 46th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, with three wins in WTA tournaments.
