Maria lost to Spaniard Masarova in two sets
Eighth racket of the world Maria Sakkari finished in singles US Open 2023.
In the first round match, the representative of Greece lost to the Spaniard Rebeke Masarova. Tennis players spent an hour and a half on the court.
In the first set, Sakkari led 4:1, but lost five games in a row – 4:6. In the second game, Maria gave her opponent one game on her serve, without making a single break in response – 4:6.
Note that in early August, Sakkari played in the final of the WTA 500 tournament in Washington, where she lost to Coco Gauff. After that, Maria won only one of four fights.
Masarova in the second round will play against the winner of the match Katerina Beindl (Ukraine) – Anna Karolina Shmidlova (Slovakia).
