Rublev’s first opponent in the tournament will be Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori. In previous Masters tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati, Rublev left the competition after the first round and in the Cincinnati tournament he lost to Ruusuvuori.
“For Rublev, it could be a rewarding experience that he is knocked out in the first round of both Masters. Andrey needed some rest from tennis to reset. There is no reason to worry about his form before the US Open. I think he should reach the quarter-finals, and then it seems to me that this US Open can be a breakthrough for Andrey,” Tarpishchev told RB Sport.
The US Open first round match between Rublev and Ruusuvuori will take place on Tuesday, August 29. The match is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. Moscow time.
