Kafelnikov called it a pointless business to allow coaches to give cues to tennis players during the match

olympic tennis champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov shared his opinion on how the ability of coaches to tip their tennis players on the court during the match will affect the game.

Earlier in June, the ATP announced that coaches in the second half of the current season will have the right to invite their tennis players during matches. The rule changes will take effect on July 11, 2022 and will remain in effect until the end of the current season.

“I don’t have a clear answer as to whether it’s good or bad. If I was a player right now, I would oppose this decision. Because tennis has always been an individual sport in which two players compete against each other. There are other competitions for this format, like the Davis Cup. There the coach can sit on the bench. And here’s a slightly different story. These are individual tournaments. And everything their charm is that the athletes determine the strongest one-on-one. It won’t improve the show. A pointless business, RT quotes Kafelnikov.
