Vice President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Alexei Selivanenko admitted that the defeat of Russia Roman Safioullina of the American Tommy Paul in the second round of the US Open did not surprise him.
Safiullin lost to Paul on Wednesday with the score 6:3, 6:2, 2:6, 4:6, 3:6.
– Roman this season at Wimbledon has already shown that he can go far in major tournaments. In the second round match, Safiullin failed to consolidate his advantage in the first two sets and keep the score. Paul took the lead in the third set and then turned the match around in his favor. It happens a lot in tennis,” Selivanenko told RB Sport.
Paul’s next opponent (14th seed) will be Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina (21).
