The first racket of Ukraine plans to take a rest after the US Open-2023
The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina commented on her speech US Open 2023 and shared plans for the future.
“Honestly, I was glad that I could play at all. I have won several matches here. Today was a tough fight. Jess played well in the third set. The game was unstable, sometimes worse, sometimes better, in the first or second sets. But over time, I got a lot better. Yes, unfortunately it didn’t work out in my favor. Well, it’s tennis.”
“I feel like my game is getting better. Of course, sometimes there are hard days. Today I played against the third racket of the world. It is not simple. But I feel that I am in the right place, I can compete with the best players. I am satisfied with my level. Now I just want to take a short break to recover physically and continue on. When I’m in good physical shape, I can challenge those players and the rankings will come by themselves.”
“I don’t know exactly how much time I will take on vacation. I’ll see what the doctors recommend. I’ll talk to my team, see what’s in store for me. I just really want to take the time to recover. I have not seen my daughter for a long time, so I really want to go home and get some rest. I’ve been happy with the last two months and want to keep going, but for that I need to be healthy.”
“To be honest, my goal was to be in the top 100 when I started playing in March. Of course, I am satisfied with the matches that I had. There are matches that, of course, disappointed, and I would like to play better, like, for example, the Wimbledon semi-final, like today. Physically, I couldn’t do more. But, in the end, I also did not expect such a high level for myself at Wimbledon. She also played very well at Roland Garros. In general, I am very satisfied with the tournaments that I played and the season, I am close to the top 20. There are a lot of positive things that I learned for myself.”
Svitolina lost to world number three Jessica Pegula at US Open 2023. The Ukrainian exchanged victories in sets with the American, but eventually lost in the decisive game.
The Ukrainian returned to world tennis in April after the birth of her daughter. Svitolina reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros and the semifinals of Wimbledon. Elina returned the status of the first racket of Ukraine and takes 26th place in the world ranking.
