2017 US Open runner-up Madison Keys withdrew from Wimbledon

American tennis player Madison Keys announced that she had withdrawn from the Wimbledon tournament due to injury.

— This is not what I was hoping to report a few days before the start of the tournament, but, unfortunately, I have to forfeit due to injury. I am disappointed but health comes first and my body needs time to get back to optimal shape,” the 27-year-old wrote on social media.

Keys’ place in the tournament’s main draw will be taken by her compatriot Coco Vandewey .

Keys is ranked 24th by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). In 2017 she reached the final of the US Open, the best result of an American woman at Wimbledon was the quarter-final in 2015.

Wimbledon will take place from June 27 to July 10. By decision of the organizers, Russian and Belarusian tennis players were not allowed to compete.
