Executive Director “Wimbledon” Sally Bolton said in an interview with Bloomberg that the ban on the participation of Russian and Belarusian tennis players in the tournament was introduced, for the time being, only in relation to 2022.
– The decision we made only applies to the 2022 tournament. But we still believe that this (the withdrawal of the Russians and the Belarusians – editor’s note) was the right decision for us. It’s hard to say where we will be next year. We deeply regret the negative impact our decision has had on the affected athletes,” she said.
Main draw matches at Wimbledon in 2022 will take place from June 27 to July 10. The tournament is stripped of ranking points due to the suspension of Russian and Belarusian players.
