Australian tennis player Nick Kirios said he was disappointed with Wimbledon organizers’ decision not to allow Russian and Belarusian players to participate in the tournament.
In April, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) announced that Russians and Belarusians were banned from playing in UK tournaments in 2022, even in neutral status, due to events in Ukraine. For this, the ATP and WTA have decided not to award ranking points for performances at Wimbledon.
– My personal opinion – I don’t think it’s a good idea to ban Russian tennis players from playing. As an athlete and someone who wants to compete with them, I’m disappointed they’re not here. Strange not to see here [Даниила] Medvedev . We all know what he is capable of.
But the decision is already made. I am sure that they themselves will follow the tournament in which they wanted to participate, – Eurosport quotes Kirios.
Wimbledon main draw matches in 2022 will be played from June 27 to July 10.
