Russia coach emeritus Vladimir Kamelzon believes Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev can beat Spain’s world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open semi-finals, even if he is unlucky.
The match between Medvedev and Alcaraz will take place on Friday.
– Medvedev is now playing a very good game, and he shows it from the start. I hope the case will not be limited to reaching the semi-finals and that Daniil will go further. He is currently putting in one of the most confident Grand Slam performances. He is already a fairly mature professional, he also knows how to work with the public.
However, you still need to study the enemy’s game. I have always warned that an athlete like you can reach the final and that he will not give up this victory. Alcaraz, of course, is a brilliant guy, he showed he was the first racket for a reason. But despite this, Daniil has nowhere to go – he has to win, and I believe in his victory! Medvedev doesn’t need luck, he needs to demonstrate his skills, Kamelzon told RT.
Alcaraz and Medvedev have faced each other three times, including two in 2023. In March, the Spaniard won the Masters final in Indian Wells with a score of 2-0, in July, in the Wimbledon semi-finals, he won again won with a clean sheet – 3-0. At Wimbledon 2021, Medvedev was stronger than Alcaraz in three matches.
