Former Russian tennis player Andrei Chesnokov has opened up about Daniil Medvedev’s victory over Andrei Rublev in the US Open quarter-finals.
Medvedev defeated his compatriot in three sets – 6:4, 6:3, 6:4.
– I understand that there were very difficult weather conditions. It was obvious that the players were literally smothered. I just can’t imagine how they endured such a load. The pace was just insane, they were actively playing nine up, down the lines and could manage that speed with their legs, it’s phenomenal. Medvedev moved along the back line and took out such balls. They played a ball in 20 shots, after which they still managed to show the same phenomenal draw. I wondered: who will die first? For girls, the set lasts 15 minutes, and for them, one match lasted so long,” Chesnokov quotes Vprognoze.ru.
In the semifinals of the US Open, Medvedev will meet the world’s number one racket, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
