The last Grand Slam tournament of this year, the US Open, is coming to an end. In men’s singles, today is the day of the semi-finals. Medvedev’s only victory against the Spaniard dates back to the summer of 2021 at Wimbledon in the second round, when Carlos, 18, was still little known (6:4, 6:1, 6:2).
It should be noted that the current US Open Alcaraz started with the status of the world’s first racket. But as the winner of last year’s tournament, the Spaniard can now score no points in the New York Major, compared to the same Djokovic, who also reached the semi-finals. In general, according to the results of the US Open, Carlos will lose his status as world No. 1, losing the first line of the ATP rankings to Novak. But maybe that’s not so important for the Spaniard anymore. It is much more important to win another Grand Slam. Alcaraz will therefore be as motivated as possible today, and Medvedev can only prevent him from winning if he plays his best game of the season. Can Daniel do it? Judging by the quarter-final showdown with Rublev, the Russian’s game is now a far cry from the one that helped him win the US Open title in 2021. On the other hand, the degree of importance of the semi-final match and the desire to take revenge on Alcaraz can organize Medvedev as much as possible today. It will be extremely important for Daniil to keep his serve as Alcaraz rarely loses on his serve. An interesting battle awaits us on Saturday night and I hope it doesn’t end with another defeat for Daniil Medvedev.
