Medvedev’s coach: ‘Daniil can be very tough’

Gilles Cervara, coach of the first racket in Russia Daniel Medvedev talked about the peculiarities of working with the Russian tennis player.

In the ½ final of the 2023 US Open, Medvedev (third seed) beat world number one, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, with a score of 7:6 (7:3), 6:1, 3:6 , 6:3.

“In the US Open final two years ago, I felt he was in the comfort zone to play a great match. Every day on the training ground was really hard because Daniil is such a player. I mean, every player is difficult to coach. All different. But Daniel can be very tough.

So to protect myself, I have to be very, very strong. See what is happening, what is happening in his head, have, so to speak, a good reaction, choose the right words in time,” Cervara said at a press conference.

In the final, Medvedev will face Serbian Novak Djokovic. This match will be the 15th between them. Medvedev now has five victories, while Djokovic, a 23-time Grand Slam winner, has nine.
