The second racket of Ukraine won a very difficult victory in three sets
Second racket of Ukraine Angelina Kalinina successfully started at the WTA 500 tournament in America San Diego.
In the first round of the main draw, the Ukrainian faced a difficult opponent – Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic (she lost 9 positions in the updated WTA rankings and is currently ranked 34th). The three-set match lasted more than two and a half hours.
The first set was an even fight. The rivals went point to point. Kalinina was on the verge of defeat, but twice won back set points with the score 5:6, and then won the tiebreaker – 7:6.
The second game began for Angelina with a lost serve and turned into a defeat – 0:6. In the decisive set, the Ukrainian lost 1:2, but then won four games in a row. On the fourth attempt, Kalinina converted the match point and celebrated her labor victory.
In the 1/8 finals, the Ukrainian will meet with another representative of the Czech Republic – Barbora Krejcikova (No. 13 WTA), seeded 4th at the tournament.
Let us remind you that earlier in San Diego Lyudmila Kichenok successfully started in doubles. Later (at 21:30 Kyiv time) Marta Kostyuk will enter the fight – she will be opposed by Magda Linett from Poland.
