Paired with German Friedsam, the Ukrainian beat the fourth seeds from Great Britain
Ukrainian Nadezhda Kichenok successfully started in the doubles of the WTA 250 tournament in Osaka, Japan.
Paired with German Anna-Lena Friedsam, the Ukrainian beat the British duo Alicia Barnett / Olivia Nicholls, seeded fourth at the tournament, in three sets. The meeting lasted 1 hour and 39 minutes.
Nadezhla and Anna-Lena won the first set quite easily, losing only two games to their opponents. But in the next game the British got revenge – 6:3. Everything was decided in a dramatic third set. Barnett and Nicholls trailed 1:4, then led 7:4 and 9:6, missing three mat-points in a row. The Kichenok-Fridsam duo made a comeback and won – 11:9.
In the quarter finals, the Ukrainian-German tandem will face the duet Natsumi Kawaguchi / Momoko Kobori (Japan).
Let us remind you that earlier today, Nadezhda’s sister Lyudmila achieved a similar achievement, pairing with Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, reaching the quarterfinals of the doubles of the WTA 500 tournament in San Diego, America.
