Former world number one Halep suspended for four years for anti-doping rule violation

Romanian tennis player Simona Halep disqualified for four years for anti-doping rule violations, according to the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) website.

A 31-year-old Romanian woman has been charged with two separate counts. The first involved a negative drug test result for the banned substance roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. The second charge was related to discrepancies in the athlete’s biological passport indicators.

Halep, a two-time Grand Slam champion, has been suspended from competition since October 2022. The former world number one’s disqualification will expire on October 6, 2026. The decision is subject to appeal.
