Former world number one Halep banned for four years for violating anti-doping rules

The suspension will last until October 6, 2026

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) said the Independent Tribunal disqualified former world number one Simon Halep on four years for violating the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TDAP).

Halep was charged with using the banned substance roxadustat at the 2022 US Open and discrepancies in the Romanian Athlete Biological Passport (ABP).

An independent tribunal found Halep guilty of a willful anti-doping rule violation. The ABP violation charge was also upheld.

Halep was provisionally suspended from competition in October 2022. Thus, the disqualification of the famous tennis player will last from October 7, 2022 to October 6, 2026. The decision to remove may be appealed.

Let us remind you that at the US Open 2022, Halep was eliminated in the first round. The Romanian lost to the Ukrainian Daria Snigur in three sets. Simone is a two-time Grand Slam winner.
