Serena Williams liked Halep’s disqualification post

Former world number one Serena Williams liked the post on the social network, which talks about the disqualification of the Romanian Simona Halep for violation of anti-doping rules.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Halep, 31, had been suspended for four years. She was found guilty of using the banned drug roxadustat during the US Open 2022. The second charge was related to discrepancies in the indicators of the athlete’s biological passport.

Former tennis player Nicole Gibbs, speaking about the punishment, wrote on the social network: “What a disappointment when you find out that half of your sports heroes cheated. It’s so frustrating and it makes the sport look so stupid – it’s not a fair fight and you wonder how many people are being overlooked (I think a lot).”

Serena Williams liked this post. Additionally, she herself wrote: “8 is the best number”, probably referring to the number of victories she had at Wimbledon. The American has won Wimbledon seven times, losing to Halep in the final of the 2019 tournament.

Halep topped the WTA rankings for 64 weeks. She has won two Grand Slam singles tournaments: the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon. In total, the Romanian has 24 titles in WTA tournaments.
